Barbara Herbener - Piano
bherbener@copper.net

I received a B.S in Music Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and taught in two Sandusky elementary schools 1 year; then married and started a family and taught private piano students for approximately 10 years. I was introduced to Suzuki violin teaching in Athens, Ohio, when daughters of friends began lessons with Lorraine Fink. Upon moving to Lexington in 1974 my son began Suzuki violin lessons with Laurie Barnette and I observed LTEA's three piano teachers and became excited about teaching in this way. In summer, 1975, I received piano teacher training from Carole Bigler and Valery Lloyd-Watts at the Stevens Point, WI, institute and began teaching with LTEA that fall. Over the next 20 years I added training in the seven volumes of the piano repertoire with Ray Landers, Constance Starr, Francoise Pierredon and Doris Koppelman.

It gives me much pleasure to be in the "Suzuki triangle" with child and parent and also to collaborate with the other LTEA teachers in recitals and special events. With LTEA's help I've been able to attend enrichment programs at Suzuki Institutes periodically to reinforce and expand my teaching skills.
